Shocking Pinks Shocking Pinks is the solo recording project of Christchurch born recluse Nick Harte. Having released 3 albums in NZ, 2 on NZ's legendary Flying Nun label, Shocking Pinks have now inked a 4 album contract with New York based DFA records, with an accompanying licensing deal to EMI UK.
The first release on DFA, a self titled album compiling tracks from the Flying Nun albums, has been receiving glowing reviews abroad, including a recent rave on the notoriously critical Pitchfork.
In the past, Shocking Pinks live has consisted of numerous line-ups, but with the overseas deal, touring, and a planned move to London in early 2008, Harte has finally assembled a permanent live line-up that does justice to the dance-infused, dreamy, yet raw recorded sound.
The live band consists of Vaughan Williams on bass (ex D4, Fanatics), Tim McDonald (ex Incisions) on drums, Harte's girlfriend Emma Rosenberg on keyboard and Nick Harte on guitar and vocals.
Musically Shocking Pinks is hard to describe, but if you tried to picture the bastard offspring of My Bloody Valentine, The Stooges, Liquid Liquid and Fleetwood Mac, you'd be halfway there...
